I like bhavukatha in Ananth Sriram's lyrics. Also as I said in previous comments, you can start writing your own songs once you have some thing strong to say it will come out automatically. I have been writing songs just for fun once in a while for more than ten years now and this is my experience. Start looking at some chandassu and start writing padyams in different structures like kanda, seesa, aataveladi, tetageethi, etc. Make sure you refer to some dictionary to get synonyms, etc. Doing this padyams will increase your speed and vocab. I am also in learning stage. Here is my blog which I need to update more frequently, but I bet you will like my first post which is a song.
